Subject: RE: Missouri ACRL Chapter
Dear Brent,
Thank you very much for your message. I apologize for the delay in responding, but I have been out of the office.
You have started in the right place by reviewing the information at the link below. I would suggest reading through the Chapter Orientation Manual for a basic understanding of the relationship between ACRL and its chapters.
Are you and the other Missouri Chapter officers to subscribed to acrlchptr@ala.org? If not, please let me know and we’ll get you subscribed. This list is the main communication mechanism between ACRL National and the 42 chapters.
Also, please review the online roster at http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/acrl/about/chapters/roster.cfm#MO and send me any necessary updates.
ACRL Chapters Council meets at each ALA Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference on Sunday from 8 a.m. -12:00 p.m. You or a representative from your chapter are invited to attend any of these meetings. The upcoming meeting in Boston will end by approximately 10:30 a.m.
According to my records, the Missouri Chapter hasn’t submitted an annual report since the 2005-06 fiscal year. Annual reports are due in May each year and a number of reminders are sent to acrlchptr@ala.org. If a chapter fails to submit a report for two consecutive years, ACRL cannot provide them their reimbursement allotment for the next fiscal year. While the annual report form is now online, you can submit the attached report in order to get caught up and receive ACRL funding for this fiscal year (9/1/09-8/31/10).
Here is some information about the reimbursement process:
“State and regional chapters of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) are allocated $1.00 per ACRL member, with a $100 minimum allocation given to those chapters with fewer than 100 ACRL members. Reimbursement requests for this allocation must be submitted by August 15, 2010, as the ALA fiscal year ends August 31, 2010.
ACRL Chapters may spend budgeted resources on any items or activities that support the charitable and educational purposes of ACRL’s strategic goals as identified in the strategic plan with two exceptions. 1) The allotted funds may not be used for payment of honoraria or travel to support librarians' presentations at ALA, ACRL, or ACRL chapter conferences and 2) The allotted funds may not be used to purchase goods or services prohibited by ALA and ACRL policy.
ACRL is empowering you to decide whether your expense is charitable, educational or operational. As the originator of the expense, you will have first-hand knowledge as purpose of the expense and whether it is educational and charitable or operational in nature. Your signature will certify this decision and ACRL/ALA will have a clear paper trail for the expense should it be audited.
In order to receive reimbursement, please submit the Chapter Reimbursement Request form, available at http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/acrl/resources/forms/chreimburse.cfm, along with original receipts. The Chapter president/chair must sign the form. This form is also available from the ACRL home page, www.ala.org/acrl. Click on ‘Working with ACRL’ and then ‘Forms.’ The Chapter Reimbursement Request form is towards the bottom of the page.
Please review the guidelines on chapter funding, along with reimbursement procedures, in Chapter 2.4-2.5 of the ACRL Guide to Policies and Procedures, available on the ACRL Web site, www.ala.org/acrl. Go to ‘Working with ACRL’ and then ‘Policies and Procedures.’”
I really appreciate you touching base and am happy to answer any further questions you have about chapters.
Many thanks,
Megan Griffin

Subject: Missouri ACRL Chapter
Hello,
I am the Chair of the Missouri Association of College & Research Libraries (a chapter of ACRL) through December 2010. Because our chapter is also a division of our state library association, I think much of our participation with ACRL has been lost through time. Any suggestions and assistance you can provide to strengthen this relationship is appreciated.
I am currently reviewing information listed at http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/acrl/about/chapters/index.cfm
Thank you,
